Taraweeh is one of the essential elements of the month of Ramadan as many Muslims offer it at mosques and at places dedicated to this specific purpose. Regardless of whether you adhere to a school of thought that believes in 20 rakahs or 11, the benefits and blessings of this auspicious ritual are immense.

Here are 5 benefits of offering taraweeh prayer:

Benefits & blessings of taraweeh prayer

1) You listen to the Quran

No matter how much we recite the Quran in ordinary days, the opportunity to listen to the Quran during Ramadan in the form of Taraweeh is great. Best if you can join Taraweeh at a nearby mosque and complete the entire Quran (by listening to it).

2) You earn immense rewards by joining Qiyam al Layle

Taraweeh is offered after Isha so it falls the under the category of Qiyam ul Layl. Qiyam ul Layle includes prayers such as Tahajjud, Taraweeh, Salatul Tasbeeh and nafl salah.

So, Taraweeh being Qiyam ul Layle has blessings and virtues beyond our imagination. Standing up to offer salah for the sake of God and sacrificing your sleep & comfort is more rewarding than we think.

3) All past sins are forgiven

Offering Taraweeh, which is night prayer (Qiyam ul Layle), can clear us of all our past sins and wrongdoing InshaAllah.

Prophet Mohammad ﷺ said:
"Whoever establishes prayers during the nights of Ramadan faithfully out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards (not for showing off), all his past sins will be forgiven." [Bukhari 37]

4) You adhere to the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammad ﷺ

Taraweeh is the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammad ﷺ. Moreover, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and His companions used to engage with Quran in the month of Ramadan more than any other month. So, taraweeh is a great opportunity to adhere to these two Sunnahs of our beloved Prophet ﷺ: Qiyam ul Layle & Quran.

5) You gain health & psychological benefits

After having eaten plenty of food at Iftar and consumed items full of calories, it is sensible to work out for an hour or so. And nothing is better than Taraweeh. where you can listen to the Quran while forcing your body to keep moving.
  • Repeated movement of your body parts during Taraweeh makes your muscles flexible and the blood flow.
  • It creates self-control and patience.
  • Since taraweeh is usually offered in congregation, it builds harmonious relations with other Muslims.
  • For aged persons whom doctors advice to take a walk on a daily basis, Taraweeh serves the same purpose as it restores muscle strength and join flexibility.
