Can you really focus on Allah? If yes, then how? What's on your mind when you are doing it?
This questions comes up because we cannot see Allah with our eyes. So how can we focus on someone Who does not have any form and that cannot be sensed through sense perception like seeing, touching, hearing etc?
Focusing on Allah means that you are consciously thinking of Allah and His attributes (recall His 99 names). The existence of Allah is beyond our comprehension and we cannot detect His being with our limited intelligence. But we can perceive Him by His attributes (such as mercy, power of creation, and other attributes).
Allah has revealed a basic rule in Quran, with which we can learn to focus on Him and His attributes:
It is that simple.
Follow these practical steps to grow your ability to concentrate on God. Remember, the results will entirely depend on how determined you are for your wish.
Pay close attention to how everything is happening around you in the world. If you look at your own body, you will see that there are an unlimited number of processes going on in your body to keep you alive. Your lungs have to pump air in order to help you breath. Your nose, lungs, mouth and heart are all working together in harmony to take one breath. The air you are breathing right now is composed o f nitrogen, oxygen and other gases. Can you control these processes yourself? then who is doing these things? Of course anyone who is doing these things to keep you alive miraculously must have unlimited power, unlimited intelligence and great creation skills and that entity must not be created - it must be self-existing.
Doing shukr/gratitude is the most powerful tool to focus on Allah. To create the feeling of gratitude for Allah and focus on Him, start by thinking of worse possible things. For instance, think of how worse it would be if Allah never gave you life to understand Himself? how bad life would be if we were not born into a Muslim family? Imagine life without water, air. Come up with as much as could-be-worse scenarios and you will notice that you are paying more attention to Allah and His mercy.
When we don't repent and make astaghfar for our mistakes, negligence, arrogance, and lack, Allah blocks our progress. Doing astaghfar is one of the shortest and quickest ways to regain your focus on Allah. Even if you think you haven't done anything wrong, do astaghfar becuase not thanking Allah for His blessings and favours itself is a mistake and laziness.
Looking at creation (humans, life and everything in the universe) is an important step to focusing on Allah. Obviously, Allah cannot show Himself directly to us as we don't possess the capability to bear the sight. So we have to concentrate on the Almighty by understanding how His creation is functioning and acknowledging His mercy, love and care.

One simple rule
Allah has revealed a basic rule in Quran, with which we can learn to focus on Him and His attributes:
"So remember Me, I will remember you" (Surah Baqarah Verse 152)
It is that simple.
Follow these practical steps to grow your ability to concentrate on God. Remember, the results will entirely depend on how determined you are for your wish.
1. Focus on the attributes of Allah by paying attention to how creation is working
2. Do gratitude/shukr all the time
Doing shukr/gratitude is the most powerful tool to focus on Allah.
3. Do Astaghfar
Allah can be known through His creation
Looking at creation (humans, life and everything in the universe) is an important step to focusing on Allah. Obviously, Allah cannot show Himself directly to us as we don't possess the capability to bear the sight. So we have to concentrate on the Almighty by understanding how His creation is functioning and acknowledging His mercy, love and care.
