3 Quran Surahs to read on Eid ul Fitr

Sehrish Khan       Monday, April 18, 2022

Since Eid ul Fitr is the celebration for completion of the days of fasting in the month of the Quran, our sincere thanks must go to the Lord.  And what could be better than reciting Quran Surahs and specific verses revealed in this regard.

Allah says in the Quran:

"You shall complete the number [of days] and you may glorify God for his guiding you, and that you may be thankful."  [Surah Baqarah verse 185]

1) Surah Fatiha

Since Allah wants us to express thanks for the completion of Ramadan, reflecting on Surah Fatiha is something you can do as part of your Quran reading on the Eid day.

Surah Fatiha is all about gratitude (shukr) and acknowledging Allah for His favours, blessings and guidance. So read Surah Fatiha on Eid ul Fitr as much as you can or after each salah. Recite it, reflect upon each verse and ponder over how much merciful God is.

2) Surah Yaseen

Surah Yaseen is the heart of the Quran. The Surah also starts by glorifying the Holy Quran. The main focus of this surah is to show that the Qur'an is from God, and it tells people what will happen to them if they don't believe God's words and don't change their ways.

3) Surah Rahman

Since Eid ul Fitr is the acknowledgement of God’s favors, Surah Rahman will remind us of how much thankful we should be as far as His mercy and blessings are concerned.

Sunnah acts to be done on Eid ul Fitr

1) Prepare for Eid by making du'a on the night before

Duas are accepted on the night before Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha.

The Messenger of Allah (saw) said that 'there are five nights on which du'a is not rejected: the first night of Rajab, the fifteenth night of Sha'ban, Thursday night, the night before Eid al-Fitr, and the night before Eid al-Nahr (al-Adha).'
