Must-Know Hacks For First Time Plant Parents

Pakrush Admin       Saturday, July 24, 2021

Plant parenting seems like one of the most interesting things to do while you're home. However, it can be more challenging than one could imagine. A debutant plant parent has several questions popping in their head. In this article, we have tried to answer some of them.

1. How moist should the soil be?

Watering is the easiest part but isn't as easy as it seems. Watering the plant on random days is certainly not a good idea and won't be recommended. Over-watering and under-watering are no better than that and thus are another set of Don'ts. Put an absorbent material such as a sponge, inside the planter which would help in maintaining the moisture in the soil and will even help by holding water for more time.

2. Timely changing of the plant holder:

It's a question that is asked very frequently. Plant holders play a major role in the growth of the plant as they hold the plant body along with the soil. When the plant grows, you require a bigger plant holder.

A hack to find out the best time to change the pot is to look at the growth of the new leaves. If the size is smaller than usual or if the soil is drying off too fast or if the roots tend to grow out of the pot then it's the best time to change to a bigger or better plant holder. The plant holder should be made of good quality material and suited well to the type of soil being used.

3. The Use of indoor grow tents:

Indoor Grow tents are a part of the most essential tools required for indoor gardening and are easy to use and set up. A grow tent allows a person to recreate the natural conditions required to grow a particular plant.

Using an indoor grow tent eases hydroponic gardening. It allows the user to grow crops all year long regardless of the seasons because he/she holds the power to control the growing environment completely. The fact ensures better harvests, more organized growing, and fewer problems with pests and diseases.

4. Using the right trowels:

While taking up the responsibility to parent a plant, one needs to take care of several aspects like mixing the soil occasionally with fertilizers or manure while bringing the lower levels of the soil to the surface of the plant holder to ensure better nutrition for the plant. The task becomes easier when one has the right tool of the right size to do it. While repotting a plant, the dust from the plant holder scatters around. To save your energy, use a trowel or a Khurpa and safely keep them in your unassembled cabinets.

5. Watering the plants:

One should fix a routine when they shall be watering the plants. Do it at least twice a day. Different plants require different amounts of light and water. Separate them depending upon their needs and place them in positions or corners of the house where they shall receive adequate light. Make sure you note down how much water should be provided to a plant and do it correctly.
