Not going to Hajj this year? No worries, you can still make the most of this Blessed Month of Dhul Hijjah! The Islamic calendar lasts for another month. The Muslim hajj pilgrimage occurs each year at Mecca and is generally referred to as a voyage of a lifetime. The rewards of the pilgrimage are tremendous, but for those who are unable to do the journey, there are wealth of chances throughout these ten days to seek from the blessings of this time and to fulfill their religious obligations. The following steps can be extremely beneficial for people who are staying home at this year Hajj.
“By the dawn; And [by] the ten nights.” (Qur’an 89:1-2)
Fasting
Fasting for first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah can be extremely rewarding and spiritually enlightening for non-pilgrims. According to one hadith:
"“There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah then these ten days – i.e., ten days of Dhu’l-Hijjah).”
Give Sadaqah
Your charitable contributions must increase during these sacred days. When you donate, Allah will repay you. Compassion has no impact on riches. Allah in the Quran tells us:
“The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allaah, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allaah gives manifold increase to whom He wills. And Allaah is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower. (2:261)
Give Qurbani
The finest act of worship in this month is to offer Qurbani (Udhiyah) by honoring our father Prophet Ibrahim (as) as an act of virtue. If you have been blessed with wealth and resources to spend on Qurbani, you should do it and distribute most part of the meat to the poor, needy and under-privileged within your community or city.
Nurture and Protect Your Family Relationships
During this time, we should strive to extend ourselves and be cordial with our family, as this will help us feel connected to Allah and do an act of worship that is vital to our faith. If you have been disconnected with some of your family members, or distant relatives. Forgive them and mend your relationship with them by visiting their house.
Make Constant Dua For This World And Hereafter
According to one Hadith: "“The best of du’aa’ is du’aa’ on the day of ‘Arafah, and the best that I and the Prophets before me said is ‘Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer (There is no god but Allaah alone, with no partner or associate; His is the dominion, to Him be praise, and He has power over all things).” (Tirmidhi)
These 10 days are the best days for making dua constantly for your betterment and improvement in all areas including this life and the next one.
