Quran: Children must be obedient to parents

Sehrish Khan       Saturday, January 12, 2019
Admit it or not, sometimes it becomes hard for children, even dutiful ones, to be remain obedient to their parents, due to any reason.  So, what to do in such a situation, where disobeying one of, or both the parents (mother and father) seems unavoidable.

Quran and Hadith inform us that one of the obligations (duties) upon a child to their parents in Islam is being obedient to them, and to honor them.

Of all the people you live with in this world, your parents are your biggest benefactor -- not your brother, sister, friends, boss, or your leader.

Quran verse

“And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years give thanks to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination." Surah Luqman verse 14-15

So when it seems hard to obey your parents because of your own negative mental state (it is completely natural as it happens sometimes), this verse should come to rescue you as it is a great reminder. Let's be thankful to Allah that He never leaves us in the dark whenever we need His help to avoid attracting His anger.

If someone does you a favor, you naturally want to return the favor in the best possible way, even if it is a small thanks with your tongue. So when it comes to getting benefits (both physical and spiritual/emotional), comfort, life support, guidance from humans, nobody in the world could replace your parents, especially mother.
