Dua for happiness in life

This dua is from Quran and it covers the overall aspect of one's life and happiness. Peace of mind is something most people are lacking in life, despite practising a number of self-improvement programs today, we are seeing an ever-increasing number of people falling prey to mental disorders, depression or anxiety. But the key to gaining real happiness in life is faith in Allah.
Dua prayer for happiness in life
 رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Reference of the Dua: Chapter Surah Al Baqarah, Verse No: 201

Transliteration: Rab-bana aatina fid-dunya hasanatan wa-fil akhirati Hasanatan wa-qina azaaban-naar

English Translation: "O Lord! Give us in this world that which is good, and in the hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the fire"


This dua can literally change your life if you practise it in an organized manner rather than just doing lip-service after each Salah (with no feeling and paying attention to the meaning of the dua).
This dua is not only a way to get Allah's mercy from hellfire, but also a blessed life in the world.

Missing ingredient:

Gratitude and little or no thanks is the missing ingredient here. We often tend to forget to give thanks to many of the blessings Allah gifts us and our mind focuses on the things we don't have in life. This behaviour indicates a selfish attitude, which wilfully ignore Allah's blessings that are vital to our life and existence.

How to change the mindset from an ungrateful to grateful?

* Start giving thanks to Allah for existing blessings
* Start giving thanks to Allah for future blessings that you want to get

Intense gratitude/weak gratitude:

Thinking of a worse possible event/scenario is the only practical way to feel the required gratitude to get Allah's blessings. Our mind is hardwired to pay attention to things we lack in life, which makes it extremely difficult for an average person to focus on gratitude (shukr) and attract Allah's mercy (though Allah is already showering His mercy on His creation, the worries and problems are created by our self and egos).

How to create intense gratitude: 

For instance you want to give gratitude to Allah on health. It will be extremely hard (most of times impossible) to feel intense gratitude if you are only focusing on the benefits of health (eyes, legs, good physique, facial features, etc). So, your best bet is to imagine yourself in a situation where you have lost the benefit of these blessings. The whole practice revolves around the point "These blessings are not given to us because we were entitled to get them, but they came thanks entirely to Allah's mercy and we had no role in getting them."
